Bank Holiday Banker or Blanker ?

River Derwent & River Trent

Friday 24th-Monday 27th Aug

Well Pete  Picked me up at 6am Friday morning and we headed down to Derbyshire we Arrived at the B&B Holden House  Where we stayed throughout the weekend The B&B is ran by Angela & her Dad Barrie and i would Recommend staying here its Superb and in the lovely Village of Shardlow.
Everything was dealt with by Patrick Oliver at Three Rivers Angling Adventures  We had all the Info we needed upon Arrival Permits,Keys,Bait Patrick's a Great chap and really Helpful Highly Recommended.
After settling in we got to the banks of The Derwent Around 10am we had a little walk along the banks of The Earl of Harrington AC stretch and choose our swims on the Empty banks of the low & Clear River Derwent these looked like the Perfect BANKER Pegs after a number of Tactical changes and hours without Twitch we decided to wrap up. We headed back to the B&B where Pete had Forty Winks well deserved after a long hard Day after a bit of lunch and a Pint we headed back around 7pm a slight change of swims feeling positive  with a evening session i waited & waited while being attacked off the biggest slugs I've ever seen I hear Pete shout I'm in Lee Quickly reeled in and i went up to Pete's peg and there he was Slipping a nice 4lb 12oz chub under the net Not what we came for but very welcomed and a new PB for Pete.
We decided to pack up about 11pm and take a well earned Trip to the Navigation Inn across from the B&B for a few night caps.
We set off after breakfast Saturday morning around 8am to the same location as Friday only to find the banks were full of anglers so we decided to fish a small back water off the River Derwent ( Chub Alley ) i decided yo try the pin rolling meat and Pete opted for the Float with 10year old maggot what he'd had in the freezer Pete was catching well after battling through the minnows he had some small Dace & Chublets  after a few hours we decided to have a walk back on to the Derwent and Squeezed into a swim with one rod each i decided to try the Baits we got from Patrick a 14mm Shrimp Dumbell Made by Lodge Specialist Baits  after a short Period again without a Twitch we Decided to pack up and head back for a Chippy Tea.I think after two days without a fish you start doubting your self What am i doing wrong and start to change things this is all i was thinking, long hook links,Short hook links, back leads,Baits Starting to drive me Nuts.
After tea we went back to the B&B Shower a quick nap and we was back in the van we Got to the Car park and decided to fish up river after a walk we both picked out a swim Looked brilliant over hanging tree line on the far bank a bit of colour on the river from the days rain Maybe this was the one ? feeder approach this time the plan was to put 5-10 feeder full's in and go on the Lead on 2 x 6mm wrapped with paste sat on it & Sat on it Then around 10:30 a Twitch then the tip pulls over and I'm in,Its no barbel but a much welcomed Chub of 4lb 10oz We soon left and headed back to the van in The Car park surrounded by 10ft Pallasade fencing i walked round to the Passenger only to realize we had been Robbed !
Please if you Visit Do Not Leave any Valuables in your Vehicle the Police have been Notified by the Club and are now working with the local Police
Sunday we was due on the Derby Railway Angling Club Stretch of the River Trent but due to the light minded little people last night we had to report the crime to the police and let Pete make arrangements with the insurance company to replace the Window After one of Angie's lovely Breakfast we was fighting fit a ready for a long day on the Trent we had allot of rain last night and the river was up around 2-3ft on a guess form looking at the boat launch in the garden of the B&B.We got to the car park behind the Crown Inn Pub just up the road walked round to the bend where we found some slack water i was using the FFFs  Feeders conditions were hard after a few moves we found a area what looked perfect a lovely little slack but i'm afraid it wasn't to be so we moved right round Crown Bend and fished the Garden Peg then we Fished across from the B&B  into Dark,Conditions were tough so we decided to call it a day and go and Drown our sorrows in the Navigation Inn.
We Got the window fixed Monday morning we was supposed to be back on the Derwent but by the time we had Breakfast and waited for Autoglass to arrive we decided we would leave and head home at lunch time we had a Brilliant time even though the fishing wasn't to be its a Lovely location and would return no end  no doubt we'll be back just this time with Treble hooks.

Introduction

Hi
Welcome to my Blog The Northern Angler.
I've been sat behind the Computer for a number of weeks thinking of starting this Blog so here go's.
We'll I'm Lee Currently Living in Bolton, Lancashire Along with my Wife and 3 Wonderful children. I'm 30years old and been a keen all-round angler for around 18year's I've recently decided to no longer fish the Commercials or any Social Matches, I've Dedicated my Fishing Solely to Barbel & Pike two species of fish what are truly amazing.
I'm Currently in my second season of barbel fishing and its quite safe to say I'm really enjoying this style of angling i currently hold a PB of 9lb 8oz ( Which was taken last season but recently Landed a fish of the Exact same weight ) I'm still chasing a Double Figure fish from the River Ribble, A river what I have become apart of in the last two years This River has some truly special stretches.
In the past I've packed away the Barbel gear in October to concentrate on my Pike fishing but this season i may Juggle the two around as you can have some fantastic fishing for both species over Winter.
My Pike fishing consists of Fishing Reservoirs,Lochs & Canals my Current PB is 20lb 9oz a reservoir Pike taken on Dead Bait ( Smelt ) This winter my Plan is to fish allot more Canals hopefully aiming for a 20lb Canal Pike.
I sure if you stay in contact you'll see how myself & my Friend  Pete Get Along.
